Daily oral hygiene helps prevent periodontal disease. If good oral hygiene is not yet already undertaken, then twice daily brushing with daily flossing, mouthwashing and use of an interdental brush needs to be started. Technique with these tools is very important. Aged persons may find that use of these interdental devices more necessary and easier, since the gaps between the teeth may become larger.

Nearly all Americans brush their teeth. However, the ADA indicates that only about 12 percent of Americans floss daily, 39 percent floss less than daily, and 49 percent do not floss at all.

Levi Spear Parmly, a dentist from New Orleans is credited with inventing the first form of dental floss. He had been recommending that people should clean their teeth with silk floss since 1815.

Dental floss was still unavailable to the consumer until the Codman and Shurtleft company started producing human-usable unwaxed silk floss in 1882,. In 1898, the Johnson & Johnson Corporation received the first patent for dental floss.

A character is depicted using dental floss in James Joyce's famous novel Ulysses (serialized 1918-1920) - an early mention of the practice in literary fiction.

The adoption of floss was poor before World War II. It was around this time, however, that Dr. Charles C. Bass developed nylon floss. Nylon floss was found to be better than silk because of its greater abrasion resistance and elasticity.

Q: What is ShowerFloss?

A: ShowerFloss is an "Oral Irrigator" attached to your shower. It is similar to the one used in all dental offices. It provides a steady, jet stream of water which you direct between teeth , along gum lines and down into gum pockets. You control the temperature and pressure of the water.

Q: Will it fit on my shower?

A: ShowerFloss attaches to all "standard" showers - which is (98% ) of all showers.

Q: How do you install it?

A: Remove your showerhead - Attach the Adapter - Attach showerhead onto Adapter. Very simple.

Q: How does it work?

A: Your shower supplies the water, you adjust the temperature. The Adapter-Valve allows you to control pressure and flow of water to the pik.

Q: Does ShowerFloss replace "String" Floss?

A: Since 90%+ will not use string floss regularly, ShowerFloss is an effective alternative. Most users just brush their teeth and use their ShowerFloss.

Q: Why is Oral Irrigation more effective than String Floss.

A1: String only cleans the tooth area it contacts. Most people lack the dexterity to use the string completely around each tooth. String will miss low spots or depressions found on all teeth. More importantly, string is useless down in gum pockets where plaque is (60) times more toxic than easy to reach plaque above gum lines. Anyone with braces, or bridgework will find string floss impossible to use effectively.

A2: Oral Irrigators reach all parts of each tooth and down into gum pockets. The jet stream of water dilutes and flushes out plaque and toxic bacteria. The warm water massaging action stimulates gums increasing blood flow to further promote healing. It effectively cleans braces, implants and under bridgework. Our convenient shower location is conducive to frequent use - with no mess.

Q: What do you get with each unit?

A: Each unit is complete: Adapter, Tubing and Sleeves, Handle, Red and Blue Piks, Wall Hanger and Instructions.
